This Part discusses the relationship between Digital Preservation and semantic technologies, and the role played by the latter towards alleviating some of the problems faced by the former.

 

Expected learning outcome
  • Get a better understanding of the problems and risks faced by Digital Preservation today.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the risks underlying semantic ageing.
  • Get introduced to the notion of “cultural ageing”, that refers to the phenomenon of communities losing over time interest in some particular content.
Level of advancement Introductory, but some familiarity with the key notions of Digital Preservation is needed.
